Notification of cooling towers and evaporative condensers

Premises with cooling towers and 'evaporative condensers' must register with us under the Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations, 1992. We keep a Cooling Tower Register so that we know where these systems are, helping us to:

• identify areas at risk of increasing the spread of infectious disease, such as Legionella
• ensure preventative measures are taken to eliminate the risk of infection for employees and the public
• assist businesses to control risks from Legionella and to take action if they are not adequately controlled

Registering premises

Complete and return your registration form for a cooling tower or evaporative condenser at your premises, including:

• the address where the cooling tower(s) or evaporative condenser(s) are located
• the name and contact details of the person(s) in control of the premises
• the number of cooling towers or evaporative condensers at the premises
• a brief description of the location where the equipment is situated at the premises (this may include a site plan)
• any other relevant information

We will normally acknowledge receipt of your notification in writing within ten working days. Your notification will be added to our register.
