Early Childhood Education Providers

Early Childhood Education Providers play a key role in delivering better outcomes in Early Talk for York.

We know that quality of practice and provision in these providers makes a huge difference so there are many opportunities available for you to help enhance this.


Step 1

City-wide Wellcomm rollout

Use the WellComm toolkit to universally screen all children and respond accordingly. Submit this data to the LA annually.

Communication toolbox

Make use of the Communication Toolbox which is available to all schools and settings.

Network

Join or set up a network to share practice and support each other in relation to ETFY (community of practice).

Look Say Sing Play (LSSP) for all under 2s

Use activities from LSSP with children and make resources available to families to use at home.

Encourage families to sign-up to the weekly tips from LSSP.


Step 2

Train practitioners

Access Elkan training for 75% of your team.

Communication toolbox

Use the communication Toolbox with families so they can support their child's development.

Join an Early Talk For York network/delivery group

Share experiences and good practice with other settings and schools. Express interest by email.


Step 3

Train practitioners

1) Access Level 3 accredited training for 10% of your team.

2) Access Level 4 training and complete cascade training to achieve Communication Friendly Setting status.

Train new starters

Ensure that new members of your team access training sessions provided by ETFY speech and language therapists.

Train childminders

Access Speech, Language and Communication training package.

Look Say Sing Play sessions for families

Offer sessions of Look Say Sing Play to families demonstrate the activities and promote the benefits
