We're proposing some People Streets improvements to the area around the main entrances to Carr Infant School and Carr Junior School on Ostman Road.
Ostman Road is known to get congested with traffic during peak school drop-off and pick-up times, as many parents drive their children to school and park on the street. The proposed design options aim to discourage parking and encourage active travel by making the environment more appealing for pedestrians and cyclists.
Proposed improvements
The works aim to improve the environment for pedestrians, cyclists and mini scooter users on Ostman Road near the schools by reducing the impact of traffic and on-street parking.
Proposed changes include:
- new parking restrictions between designated gateways along Ostman Road, with an aim to reduce the impact of traffic outside schools
- improvements to the environment, to make walking and cycling to school safer and more appealing
More information on the proposed works can be found in detail from the Executive Member for Transport Decision Session, held on 14 February 2022.
Ostman Road improvements consultation
The Ostman Road consultation is now closed.
In June 2022 we asked for your thoughts on the current state of Ostman Road and how it can be improved, and we are now processing your responses.
Feedback was reported to the Executive Member for Transport on Tuesday 19 July to decide which elements of design proposals will be further developed. You can read the meeting agenda online and watch the decision session via webcasts.
