Pension Credit

Pension Credit provides extra retirement income if you’re on a low income, but one in three people who are entitled to it don’t claim.

We estimate that currently in autumn 2024 that over 1600 people in York who are entitled to Pension Credit are not claiming.

If you’re one of them, you could be missing out on thousands of extra income a year. Find out if you qualify.

Where we can identify from the information we have where people are receiving either Council Tax Support or Housing Benefit that residents may be entitled to Pension Credit we are contacting them to let them know.

Pension Credit gives you extra money to help with your living costs if you’re over State Pension age and on a low income. It is separate from your State Pension. You can get Pension Credit even if you have other income, savings or own your own home.

If you get Pension Credit you can also get other help, such as:

  • Winter Fuel Allowance
  • a Council Tax discount
  • a free TV licence if you’re aged 75 or over
  • help with NHS dental treatment, glasses and transport costs for hospital appointments, if you get a certain type of Pension Credit
  • the Warm Home Discount Scheme

Don’t miss out. Find out if you’re eligible for Pension Credit.
