Studies have shown that living in a cold, damp or mouldy property can exacerbate serious health conditions, prolonging recovery and reducing household comfort.
Working in partnership with our Public Health Team, the Home Energy Efficiency Team has created the Warm and Well Service to help tackle cold, damp and mould in the homes of York residents, helping to increase household comfort while potentially assisting in lowering heating bills and reducing domestic carbon.
The Warm and Well Service provides eligible York residents with free draughtproofing and air-quality improvement measures, such as:
- draughtproofing of doors
- draughtproofing of windows
- loft hatch draughtproofing
- swapping existing light bulbs for energy efficient alternatives
- radiator bleeding
- installation of radiator reflector foil
- cleaning and painting of mould-affected walls
- provision of dehumidifiers and trickle vents as required
- provision of energy-efficiency advice
- referral to other support systems and energy retrofit services
To benefit from this service, customers must be able to evidence one of the following medical conditions:
- respiratory diseases such as COPD, emphysema, chronic bronchitis and severe asthma
- cardiovascular diseases such as heart disease and stroke
- Diabetes types 1 and 2
