Help we provide
We provide help with Primary Authority, consultancy services, approved trader schemes, food and drink including pre food-hygiene rating inspection visits and other services.
Primary Authority
Primary Authority partnerships with City of York Trading Standards and Environmental Health allow businesses to receive tailored, practical and pragmatic advice on how to comply with regulations.
Advice is “assured” meaning that you can legally rely on it and that it must be respected by other local authorities; providing certainty for you and reducing the number of authorities that you need to deal with.
Partnerships may be direct or coordinated, are recovered at cost only and may be formed with any local authority or fire and rescue service not only the one where your head office is located.
Consultancy services
City of York Council’s Public Protection team provide environmental consultancy services. We can undertake environmental assessments, provide environmental reports to support planning applications, licensing applications and property purchase for both the public and private sector.
Our areas of expertise include:
- Air Quality
- Noise/Acoustics
- Contaminated Land
- Pollution
We can also provide advice on food safety, health and safety at work and trading standards.
Approved trader schemes
We approve traders who meet the highest standards of fair and safe trading. We currently operate an Approved Garage Scheme for members of the local motor trade, and we vet traders who prioritise work for elderly and vulnerable consumers as part of Age UK's Home Services Directory (.pdf).
Food and Drink including Pre food-hygiene rating inspection visits
We can visit your business prior to receiving your official food hygiene rating inspection and provide advice on improving your food hygiene score.
We can also provide advice on food safety management systems, food standards (including menu descriptions and allergens), alcohol licensing and sales, and odour/noise control.
Other services
We are willing to consider any other request for support that your business may require.
All of our services are provided by qualified and experienced professionals. Please contact us if you are interested in any of the above services.
