Electric Park & Ride buses
York Park & Ride is the largest zero emission bus service of its kind in the country.
Our partnership with First York, and an investment totalling £9.3 million (including £2.7 million of funding we secured from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles), saw 21 new all-electric double-decker buses enter service in 2020, each of which saves almost 1 kilogram of carbon dioxide emissions for every kilometre travelled, a combined estimated saving of 1.6 million tonnes of CO2 each year.
The buses:
- replaced existing diesel vehicles
- expanded the fully electric fleet to 33 buses
- can carry 98 passengers
- have a range of 160 miles from one overnight charge
- can operate on the network all day without recharging
Our partnership with First Bus expanded beyond Park & Ride in August 2023, when First York ‘switched on’ a new fleet of zero emission buses for York in a transformation that will see its depot become one of the first outside London to be fully electric.
The fleet represents a total investment by First Bus of £13 million supported with £10.2 million funding secured by City of York Council from the Government’s Zebra scheme.
