Alex Lyon House is located just off Melrosegate, next to Tang Hall Community Centre.

There are a number of local supermarkets located on Fourth Avenue and Tanghall Lane, as well as bakeries, takeaway shops, a pharmacy and a hairdresser. It’s a 20 minute walk to Morrison’s supermarket, which is situated in Layerthorpe.

Alex Lyon House is adjacent to St Nicholas Fields Local Nature Reserve, and a park which schools and local clubs use for football and other sport activities.

Tang Hall Explore Library is located nearby, on Fifth Avenue, and offers many services such as adult education courses or the use of computers for internet access.

There are two local churches nearby: York Community Church which is next door to the community centre and St Aelred’s Roman Catholic Church.

Alex Lyon House also has two GP surgeries close by, Tang Hall Surgery on Tang Hall lane, and Parkview Surgery on Millfield Avenue.

There is a regular bus service, which can take you directly into the city centre or straight through to Clifton Moor. Buses run every 10 minutes.

There are 35 self-contained flats, with 21 in the main building and the other 14 flats arranged around the communal car park.

The main building has access to the first and second floors by lift and stairs (with stair lifts). The surrounding flats have stairs (with stair lift) to the first floor.

Most flats have one bedroom, some have two. Four have adapted kitchens for wheelchair users. Most have balconies and all have a telephone point, television socket and Economy 7 electrical storage heating.

All the flats are connected to the community alarm system.

The building is fully covered by a fire alarm system with smoke detectors in all corridors. Each flat is fitted with a fire detector.

Outside there are pleasant gardens and allotment plots for the use of tenants.

There is some parking space for tenants.

A range of social activities take place in the communal lounge area, and we encourage tenants to set up new activities and groups according to your interests. Please contact the Housing Management Officer if you want to find out what is going on at the moment.

Tenants' meetings are held every two months so tenants can share ideas and thoughts on how to help make Alex Lyon House suit the needs of everyone.

Alex Lyon House is in the area covered by Heworth without Residents' Association. These meetings are held in various locations, and all tenants are welcome to attend and contribute.
