The Glebe was opened in 1984 as purpose-built sheltered housing.
It is located within the attractive village of Dunnington, which is just 6 miles out of the city centre.
There are local shops which are only a short walk away via a footpath from The Glebe. These include a local butcher, hairdresser, dentist, newsagent, fish and chip shop, two public houses and a veterinary surgery.
The local library, The Reading Room, is on Church Street - just a short walk away.
The Reading Room has coffee mornings and regular table top sales. There is a charity shop with all proceeds going to Cancer Research.
There is a local Methodist Church on Common Road who hold a monthly lunch for tenants. All are welcome.
Local GP surgeries include MyHealth - Dunnington Health Care Centre on Petercroft Lane, and Elvington Medical Practice on York Street.
There is a regular bus service to various cities and towns including York, Pocklington, Bridlington, Hull and Stamford Bridge. The bus service to York runs every 20 minutes.

There are 15 flats and 7 flatlets within The Glebe, and 6 bungalows attached to the site.
There is access to the first floor by lift and stairs.
Flats are equipped with their own telephone point, television sockets, bathroom, kitchen, living room and bedroom.
Flatlets have a telephone point and television socket. Each flatlet has a large living-room with a sleeping area, which can be curtained off. Each has a fully fitted kitchen and bathroom and a walk-in storage cupboard.
All flats have central heating and all are connected to the community alarm system.

Outside, there are pleasant gardens to the back of the building and a well tended garden to the front and around the car park, which is for tenants' use.
The building is fully covered by a fire alarm system, with smoke detectors in all corridors and each flat is fitted with a smoke detector.

- Community room – where tenants get together to chat, relax and have a tea or coffee
- Small well-equipped communal kitchen
- Laundry room – this is included in your rent and is available to use throughout the day
- Outside drying area
- Guest bedroom – this can be booked by tenants for their family and friends to use at a small charge. It has two single beds and a sink. Toilets are near the guest bedroom

- Meeting room - a beautician visits every Friday on an appointment basis offering manicures, pedicures and massages

A range of social activities take place in the communal lounge area, and we encourage tenants to set up new activities and groups according to your interests. Please contact the Housing Management Officer if you want to find out what is going on at the moment.
- Tenant meetings

We hold tenants meeting every two months to share all ideas and thoughts that tenants may have to help make sure that The Glebe suits the needs of everyone.
The social committee meets monthly.
The Glebe lies within the area covered by Dunnington Residents' Association, and all tenants are welcome to attend these monthly meetings. These are held in the Glebe on the 3rd Tuesday in the month at 2pm.
