Emergency proxy votes
You can apply for an emergency proxy (depending on certain criteria), in the case where you're unable to vote in person due to:
- medical emergencies
- occupation requirements
- your photo ID being lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged
Emergency proxy applications can be made at West Offices up until 5.00pm on the day of an election.
Emergency medical proxy
To appoint an emergency proxy for medical reasons, you must be taken ill after a certain deadline, which is set for each election, and not be aware of an operation that requires hospital or home recovery before that date. Medical proxy forms must be 'attested' (declare to be true) by a medical professional - see: apply to vote by emergency proxy - medical reasons.
Emergency occupational proxy
To appoint an emergency proxy because your occupation or employment means you're unable to attend your polling station, you must not be aware of the occupational requirements before a certain deadline, which is set for each election. Occupational proxy forms must be 'attested' (declare to be true) by your employer, who will legally state your circumstances were not known before the deadline - see: apply to vote by emergency proxy - occupational reasons.
Emergency proxy based on photo ID
To appoint an emergency proxy because your photo ID is lost, stolen, destroyed or damaged, the photo ID you intended to use must have become unusable after 5.00pm, on the sixth working day before the election, and you must be without another form of accepted photo ID see: apply to vote by emergency proxy - photo ID reasons. The same process applies if the photo ID your proxy intended to use becomes unavailable after 5.00pm, on the sixth working day before the election, and they don't have a different form of accepted photo ID.
