Evidence suggests that Gypsies and Travellers are the most marginalised and disadvantaged of all minority groups nationally.
Gypsies and Travellers suffer the greatest inequalities across a range of indicators, including access to:
- suitable accommodation
- healthcare
- education
- employment
- financial services
- policing, justice and probation
The York Gypsy and Traveller Working Group seeks to address the inequalities that the Gypsy and Traveller community face.
Our vision is work towards ensuring that Gypsies and Travellers experience an inclusive, fair and understanding community in York.

Gypsy and Traveller Working Group Action Plan
Beginning in April 2021 the Working Group is developing an Action Plan, which builds on the work of the previous Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Strategy 2013 to 2018.
