There are a range of services available to help you in and around your home.

Community Bees

Community Bees supports York based people experiencing loneliness and isolation by providing meaningful social interaction, hands-on activities, home support and advice, gardening and decluttering.

Community Bees offer:

  • gardening at £20.00 per hour
  • decluttering starting from £25.00 per hour
  • group sessions at £5.00 per session - including materials

GoodGym York

GoodGym is a community of runners, walkers and cyclists who combine getting fit with supporting older people and community projects.

They carry out practical tasks in the home or garden for people over 50 who can no longer do these tasks for themselves.

GoodGym York are able to help with a number of tasks, including:

  • changing light bulbs
  • moving heavy items of furniture
  • assembling flat-pack furniture
  • clearing and tidying gardens to improve both safety and access

You should provide any required tools for the jobs you'd like help with.

York Neighbours

York Neighbours can provide help with small one off tasks to anyone over 65 living in York, including:

  • changing a light bulb
  • hanging curtains
  • clearing out a cupboard
  • DIY

All volunteers are DBS checked. They don't charge for their service but you should provide any required materials.

Healthy Homes handyperson service

The Healthy Homes handyperson service allows you live independently and safely, by providing help with simple tasks.

Get support with small jobs around your home if you're:

  • a York resident
  • aged 60 years and over
  • disabled

If you receive income based benefits, the service is free of charge and you only need to pay for materials.

If you're not receiving income based benefits, there's an hourly labour charge of £25 (including VAT) plus the cost of any materials. A minimum half hour labour charge applies.

Our Falls Prevention Scheme offers free home safety visits to residents across York who require practical help and advice to reduce the risk of falls in their home.
