City of York Council education leaders have congratulated students across the city on their GCSE results today (Thursday 22 August).
Cllr Bob Webb, the council’s Executive Member for Children, Young people and Education, said:
Huge congratulations to all the students who have received their GCSE and Key Stage 4 results today, and to the school staff, parents and carers who have supported them.
“Whilst an important milestone, these results are just a part of the journey towards further education, training or employment and I want to celebrate every young person’s achievements.
“I also want to reassure students that if your grades weren’t quite what you were hoping for there are still lots of opportunities for you. Whatever your plans are for the future from this point on it’s important to focus on the unique skills and abilities that you bring; training providers and employers are interested in who you are as a person, not just exam results.
“There is a range of support locally for the next steps in your journey and I would always encourage you to speak to your school first; they have supported you throughout the journey so far and they know you best to provide support.”

Young people who are concerned that their personal circumstances may make accessing education, employment or training more difficult could also benefit from advice.
