Grant applications for Warm Places invited

Published Tuesday, 22 October 2024

Organisations running Warm Places in York to support local people through the coldest months, are invited to apply for up to £5,000 funding from a £40,000 fund before 10 November.

28 Warm Places opened their doors to local residents last winter - 10 more than the previous year - for a minimum 2 hours a week.

Offering company, warmth and free hot drinks, some Warm Places offer advice and information to help residents with the cost of living, including maximising their income, how to save on bills, and where to get good, safe advice.

Last year, organisations used Warm Place grants to fund a range of essential services and products. This included paying for food supplies, equipment for food preparation and service, and contributions towards running costs such as heating bills.

Cllr Katie Lomas, Executive Member for Communities at City of York Council, said:

Warm Places are among our valued community spaces where residents can find company and warmth in the winter months.

“With fuel bills rising this month, it’s key that people who face difficult choices to be able to afford to heat their home, have a place where they can go. Warm Places help to combat social isolation as well as offering hot drinks and a source of advice and support.

“We’re so pleased that 10 new Warm Places were set up last year, and we welcome applications from organisations looking to boost their offer this winter.”

Any organisation that has or is considering offering a Warm Place this winter, can request an application form by emailing: shapingneighbourhoods@york.gov.uk, or by asking your local ward's Community Officer for an application form.

Applications close at midnight on Sunday 10 November 2025.
