Representatives from City of York Council are set to join peers from five other cities across the world in our twin city of Münster to discuss work on sustainability.
The Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) partnership conference, held in the German city from 27-29 November, will bring together delegates from Tamale (Ghana), York, Enschede (The Netherlands), Kristiansand (Norway), Winnyzja (Poland) and Münster (Germany) to exchange knowledge, share experiences and discuss the work taking place in each of these cities to build more sustainable and inclusive communities.
Representatives will attend the conference to share York’s sustainability strategies in areas like housing, economic development, transport and discuss key topics with our international partners, such as local sustainability strategies, best-practice examples, challenges, and opportunities for future improvement.
With sustainability at the heart of the conference, carbon emissions from travel are being kept to a minimum by using greener modes of transport, delegates’ travel and accommodation provided by the City of Münster.
Claire Foale, Interim Director of City Development at City of York Council, said:
In 2019, the council set an ambition for York to be net zero by 2030 – and key to achieving this goal is working in partnership with our colleagues in the UK and around the world.
“We’re grateful to our friends at Münster who are putting on this event and who have generously enabled our delegates to travel to Germany to share lessons and learn from the experiences of a diverse range of international organisations.
“We look forward to working with cities across the world as we seek to address our shared challenges now and in the future.”
