City of York Council is starting a review of polling district boundaries and places where people can vote, and is asking residents to comment on the new proposals as well as on existing arrangements.
Like all towns and cities, York is divided into polling districts in which local residents can vote at polling stations. After parliamentary constituency boundary changes were made in York this summer, some changes are being proposed in certain districts and polling stations.
There are some proposed changes to polling district boundaries in Clifton, Fulford and Heslington, and Heworth Without wards.
There are also proposals for alternative, accessible polling stations in Clifton, Holgate, and Rural West York wards.
To ensure that these existing and proposed changes work, the council is asking residents for their thoughts on these proposals, and for suggestions to improve any existing polling district boundaries and polling stations.
Views are particularly welcomed from disabled people in terms of access to polling stations, support available, and additional support needed.
Councillor Claire Douglas, Leader of the Council and Executive Member with portfolio for Democracy, said:
To encourage as many people as possible to vote, we’re always looking for ways to improve the places where residents can cast their vote.
“With boundary changes made this summer and alongside our constant review of polling stations, your opinions on our proposals are important and valued - especially those of disabled residents. Please read the proposals and give us your thoughts.”
Please read the proposed changes and share your views and ideas: Polling District, Place and Station review.
