How we help deaf pupils
At birth, families are offered the opportunity of a screening test of their baby’s hearing in hospital. At the time of diagnosis the Deaf and Hearing Support team is often involved and from that time support is ongoing in line with families wishes.
Teachers of the deaf provide ongoing assessments of functional listening skills, language development and literacy skills. Working with colleagues and professionals is a key aspect of our support.
We measure the outcomes through formal and informal assessments of functional listening skills, language development and literacy skills, tracking progress through time and feeding back regularly to the child, families, settings and other agencies. We also provide regular review meetings, annual reviews, FEHA meetings, My Plan meetings and TAC meetings.
