Our teachers of the deaf and teaching assistants promote deaf friendly teaching. We provide advice given on acoustic and visual environment to promote a good listening atmosphere for the child in school, including information on radio aids, assistive listening devices and sound field systems.
We also provide on going training of teaching assistants and other school staff on site, through annual INSET and regular twilight training, as well as advice regarding appropriate planning and differentiation. We also give information about appropriate access arrangements for exams.
How we prepare for life’s transitions
Teachers of the deaf (TODs) ensure there is support in place for the social and emotional wellbeing of the Early Year’s child.
We provide the family with support and advice to enable informed decision making
We set up personalised transition plans, negotiating with the child, the family, schools, settings and other professionals.
We provide transition groups and events, including early years in to school, year 6 in to secondary, year 10 and 11 into year 12 or further education, and year 13 into higher education or work. We also provide support and preparation towards work experience. In addition, we present training in new settings. Our TODs also liaise with Connexions workers and contribute to Statutory Support Plans for Further Education providers.
