Apply for a blind person's bus pass

You can only apply for a bus pass from us if your 'sole or principal residence' is located in our area.

To get a blind person's bus pass you can:

Someone else can apply on your behalf, but they'll need to provide copies of your documents and a suitable photograph of you.


Apply for a blind person's bus pass online

To complete an online application for a blind person's bus pass, you'll need to create an account in our travel passes portal, and provide:

  • a digital photograph (get GOV.UK information about digital ID photographs)
  • a digital copy of a document to prove your age (copy of passport, birth certificate, driving licence, medical card, letter or statement from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP))
  • a digital copy of a document to prove your address (copy of a current gas or electricity bill)
  • proof of your eligibility (copy of your Certificate of Vision Impairment showing that you are Severely Sight Impaired)

Please check you have access to digital documents stored on your device, or you can take photographs using the camera on your device, before starting the online form.

Apply for a blind person's bus pass in person

You must contact the concessionary Bus Passes Team to make an appointment to apply in person at our Customer Centre at West Offices.

You must bring:

  • proof of your age (copy of passport, birth certificate, driving licence, medical card, letter or statement from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP))
  • proof of your address (copy of a current gas or electricity bill)
  • proof of your eligibility (copy of your Certificate of Vision Impairment showing that you are Severely Sight Impaired)

You don't need to bring a passport sized photograph - we'll take your photograph while you wait.

Apply for a blind person's bus pass by post

Contact the Concessionary Bus Passes Team to request a postal form to apply for your blind person's bus pass by post.

With your postal application form you must include:

  • a passport sized photograph (with your name on the back) - get GOV.UK information about digital ID photographs and printed ID photographs
  • proof of your age (copy of passport, birth certificate, driving licence, medical card, letter or statement from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP))
  • proof of your address (copy of a current gas or electricity bill)
  • proof of your eligibility (copy of your Certificate of Vision Impairment showing that you are Severely Sight Impaired)

Processing your application for a blind person's bus pass

Please allow 10 working days for your blind person's bus pass application to be processed.

We'll send your bus pass to your address, by post.

You'll need to pay for travel until you receive your bus pass.

By completing a bus pass application, you give permission for us to use the information you provide for the improvement of financial management and the prevention and detection of fraud.
