Contact us about issues with existing road markings, or to request new road markings.
We can only deal with road marking requests for adopted roads, and cannot deal with issues on private roads.
Existing road marking issues
Contact us to report issues with existing road markings, including:
- junction markings, give way lines and stop lines
- road centre or road edge lines (white lines)
- single and double yellow lines
- residential parking bay marking lines
- keep clear, bus stop, bus lane or cycle lane markings
Issues with existing road markings can be reported by email: highway.maintenance@york.gov.uk.
You must include the following information in your email:
- details of the location, such as road names or nearby junctions
- details of which markings require investigation
- details of the issues (faded, cracked, obscured)
A Highway Inspector will attend the site within a maximum of 4 working days and make appropriate recommendations, which may or may not include a request to refresh the road markings. We cannot guarantee that every request will lead to action being taken.
If it's determined that action is required, then works will be carried out as soon as we are able to attend based on current capacity and the urgency of the case.
It may take 6 to 8 weeks or more for works to be carried out, and the ability to carry out works is dependent on suitable weather.
We cannot provide updates as to the outcome of your request.
