Welcome to our ‘Swap 2 Stop’ online support page. This a new nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging smokers to make the switch from smoking to vaping to improve their health.

Smokers are addicted to nicotine, not tobacco. It’s the tar and toxic chemicals produced in tobacco smoke that kills, so switching from smoking to vaping is a positive health move.

York residents, who are smokers, aged 18 years and over can get a free 4 week vape starter kit, by signing up below.

NHS Quit Smoking app is a free app you can download to track your progress. It includes expert advice and scientifically-proven tools to help you quit smoking for good.

Medication

There are types of medication where client needs to inform their GP or prescriber, before starting the quit process, as dosage levels are likely to be needed to be changed.

Client should also monitor any changes associated with their medication and inform their GP or prescriber of these.

For clients with any mental health Illness or learning disability, Health Trainers can offer assistance to contact your prescribers or GP on your behalf, before starting quit.

  • olanzapine (notification should be gained before quit attempt is started or NRT or e-cigarette is used)
  • aminophylline
  • theophylline
  • erlotinib
  • riociguat
  • flecainide
  • methadone
  • chlorpromazine
  • warfarin

See below a list of medication where monitoring is suggested and if any changes are noticed, associated with the medication, please contact your GP or prescriber, to inform them you are quitting smoking as dosage may need to be changed. You can start process whilst monitoring themselves.

  • adenosine
  • loxapine (inhaled)
  • zuclopenthixol
  • agomelatine
  • duloxetine
  • fluvoxamine
  • mirtazapine
  • trazodone
  • tricyclic antidepressants
  • benzodiazepines
  • insulin
  • carbamazepine

In addition, any other medications for depression or anxiety may need some adjustment if mood changes are significant due to quitting.
