York Economic Strategy: help shape York’s economy
Read the York Economic Strategy 2022-2032.

The York Economic Strategy was due to be updated in 2020, however the COVID-19 pandemic meant a different approach was needed.
As with many areas of life, the pandemic impacted our local economy. The way we buy things, how and where we work, and the jobs available to people in all sectors have changed.
We responded in different ways to the challenge; York and its economy is about much more than the city centre, it’s about all our communities, residents and employers.
We're drawing together all the available evidence to create a strategy that:
- makes the most of the things York is great at
- supports the next generation of the jobs and skills
- helps to create a fairer, greener and cleaner economy
- keeps the character of our city
As well as talking to businesses, partners and economic experts, we want to make sure we understand how you feel about the economy, employment, and skills, and the prospects for you and your family.
Through the Our Big Conversation: 10 Year Strategies Consultation we asked you what you hope for, need and want from jobs in 21st century York. We wanted to hear from the people who are most affected by the decisions we make, but don’t usually get involved in a conversation about economic strategy.
