Parent and carer guide for safeguarding
Parents and carers play a vital role in encouraging participation in sport or physical activities. As part of children taking part in these activities the topic of safeguarding can often feel overwhelming. This is why we have created a quick easy checklist for you to look out for when choosing a club that’s right for you and your child:
- Does the club or organisation have a safeguarding policy?
- Do they have a designated welfare officer?
- Is there a safe recruitment procedure for those working with young people that include a clear job description, appropriate references, criminal records checks (for example, DBS) for relevant posts and technical qualifications?
- Do they have a good practice or code of conduct in place?
- Are they club marked or equivalent?
- Do they clear procedures in place for complaints or concerns?
