How we process Household Support Fund payments
There are 2 routes for the Household Support Fund - Direct payments and discretionary.
Route 1 - Direct payments
There will be two direct payments to eligible households. These payments are intended to help families with household bills.
First payment
- £150 credit to their Council Tax account.
Customers will not need to apply for the credit. The credit will be applied direct to the customers Council Tax account.
Customers will receive a new bill detailing the credit and showing the new Council Tax balance and payments.
Customers who receive 100% discount on their Council Tax will not receive a credit.
Second payment
- cash payment of £100 in winter 2025
Qualifying residents will be invited by letter to apply to provide up to date bank details via an online form to receive their payment. The award will be paid directly into the resident’s bank account.
Route 2 – Discretionary
York residents, who are not eligible for the direct Council Tax credit or cash grant and need financial assistance to help with the rising living costs will open in April 2025
This application involves a standard means test around your current circumstances and the assistance needed to pay essential bills.
Any exceptional discretionary awards will be made on an individual basis as appropriate.
