Planning for major incidents
We have plans in place to work with the emergency services, the Environment Agency, the military and voluntary agencies to respond and recover from major incidents.
Major Incident Response Team (MIRT)
Our Major Incident Response Team (MIRT) provides a confidential and non-intrusive support service to anyone caught up in an incident or event that is outside of 'normal' life.
All types of emergency can significantly disrupt our lives, and whilst we can't always prevent them from happening, we can plan ahead to minimise their impact.
Alongside our City Centre Evacuation Plan designed to help us work with the emergency services during a major incident, we've provided information about:
- emergency plans for your community
- household emergency plans
- business continuity
- volunteering to help in an emergency (via 'Ready for Anything', NYRF and MIRT)
Support with emergencies
Find out more about:
- York Financial Assistance Scheme (YFAS) which could help to York residents facing financial difficulties following an emergency or unforeseen event
- York Disaster Fund which could provide funds to York residents whose homes are flooded, if they have limited means or are not adequately insured.
North Yorkshire Resilience Forum
The North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum is a partnership of organisations helping our area prepare, respond to, and recover from any major incident or emergency; it includes local police, fire and ambulance responders, local councils, businesses and voluntary organisations.
