As part of our Waste Strategy, all household waste we collect is sent to Allerton Waste Recovery Park (AWRP), meaning we now operate a 'zero waste to landfill' service.
This means all your household waste is now recycled or incinerated and transformed into green energy.
In addition to this, we also provide:
- kerbside collections of recycling
- kerbside collections of garden waste (for those who use our Garden Waste Subscription Scheme) for composting
- two Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) - Hazel Court HWRC and Towthorpe/Strensall HWRC
- commercial waste collection and disposal from local businesses
- support for disabled residents by collecting and returning their containers from and to their properties
- bulky waste collection for large household items (chargeable)
- advice on how to reduce waste and increase recycling

Help us run a better waste service
You can help us by:
- remembering to put your waste/recycling out before 7.00am on your collection day
- making sure your rubbish is contained within your bin or black sack (extra bags will not be collected)
- not putting dangerous or heavy items in your bin, such as: waste oil, paint, rubble or metal bars
- reducing the amount of waste your household or business creates
- considering home composting where possible
- reporting fly-tipping online
- reporting bags and bins put out too early for collection by contacting Waste, Highways and Environmental Services
- telling us when you have a concern about our service
- filling in our customer surveys and questionnaires
