The exception to 'A' Board prohibition in York city centre is Micklegate.
We allow 'A' Boards on Micklegate provided you:
Criteria for 'A' Boards and advertising objects
The criteria for ‘A’ Boards, and other advertising objects is:
- only 1 ‘A’ Board per business
- ‘A’ Board must be positioned only within property frontage, adjoining or abutting
- ‘A’ Board must not to be positioned immediately adjacent to any:
- doorway or entrance or emergency exit
- pedestrian crossing, dropped kerbs facilitating access for wheel chair users, prams or pushchairs
- taxi ranks, bus stops
- ‘A’ Board must be within the permitted maximum size (594 millimetres width, and 841 millimetres height)
- ‘A’ Boards must be static or rigid; rotating, swinging, illuminated, or powered signs are not permitted
- ‘A’ Boards must be free standing and immediately removable by hand
- ‘A’ Boards are licensed only to align with business opening times, during hours of daylight
- A’ Board are not licensed for any carriageway, road, street, lane or any other area of 'public realm' available to motor traffic (even for limited periods)
- the ‘A’ Board licensee must have public liability insurance to indemnify City of York Council against any claims
