Buying and selling a leasehold property
If you're selling your home, a solicitor can ask us for information about management and service charges on behalf of the buyer. We'll provide this information for a fee, which covers staff time and is not a cost to other leaseholders.
When a sale is agreed, the buyer’s solicitor sends us a Notice of Transfer/Mortgage within 1 month of the purchase date. This tells us who has bought the lease and will become the new leaseholder.
It's the responsibility of the buyer’s solicitor to advise us of a transfer of ownership. Until the Notice of Transfer is received the Leasehold Management Team will continue to address all communication to the seller.
Please note that the council does not get involved in the negotiation process. It is entirely the responsibility of the sellers of the lease and the buyer.
The seller will be expected to pay for service charges up until the date of sale.
