Sexual and reproductive health services provision consultation conclusion
A good response to the consultation was received with some useful feedback and suggestions on how to re-align the service with the budget available.
All the comments and suggestions will be considered, but the reality remains that in real terms the Public Health Grant has been reducing over time and this necessarily results in reduction in, and changes to, service provision.
Recommendations
- We have reevaluated the service delivery model and reinstated the Saturday service. This will result in the loss of a Wednesday Morning, but we feel that this is a good compromise.
- Working with all partners who offer contraception, promote access via a comprehensive communication campaign.
- Ensure that the information given on the Preventix online testing site gives advice on what to do next, and how to contact the clinic if a test has been refused. Testing will only be agreed based on clinical assessment in-line with British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) and Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH) guidelines and standards for diagnostics and STI management.
- Continue to offer contraception LARC in Primary Care and Community settings.
- Continue to consult on changes to the sexual health service and assess the impact of these.
- To work with our community pharmacy colleagues to ensure service provision for contraception in pharmacy services with onward support pathways to the specialist sexual health service or GPs.
